More than I would like to admit. Before and After.

(tank, shoes, bra, socks)

After I watched Boston, I texted my favorite run coach for a workout because I was so inspired. I would love to see the statistics with the most popular days of the year for race signups…Jan 1st? After watching Boston? The days when major races open up their registration?

Okay, back to the workout. We did a 2-mile warm-up with a few strides and then started the workout–>

  • 1600 @ 555-600, 3-4min rest
  • 1200 @ 550-555, 2-3min rest
  • 800 @ 545-550, 2-3min rest
  • 2×400 @ 535-545, 2-3min rest
    Recover
  • some fast 200’s and jog/walk recover for 200

We hit all of the splits he gave us and a bit faster on the 400s–> 1600 5:57, 1200 4:25, 800 2:55, 400s 79, 81, 200s 34, 38

It was so hard I plopped down on the grass after more intervals than I’d like to admit;).

I kept thinking about one of the things from Rachel Zoffness (author of Tell Me Where It Hurts: The New Science of Pain and How to Heal)–> “Reminding myself that hurt doesn’t equal harm.” The hurt I was feeling on the track didn’t mean there was any harm being done, which helped me to hold my pace. That hurt I was feeling was just a warning or fear… I wasn’t in actual danger. (Does not apply to injuries/sickness/overtraining etc… just the hurt of pushing ourselves and doing hard things).

8 miles total with a green cool-down.

I knew it was hot, and we all had quite the cottonmouth, but when we finished and looked at the temp… I felt even better about hitting the splits. I’m glad I didn’t look at the temps before the workout (Thanks to Molly for that tip)!

Before braces for Skye:

And after braces for Skye:

We now have 75% of our kids with braces on, so if I see their orthodontist in a new car around town, I’ll tell myself that we purchased it for him ;). I kid. Kind of.

Skye and I went on our date yesterday… She wanted to pick out her favorite fruit for part of our date.

And roam Target. Yes and yes. Also, it’s the Athleta Spring Sale! Everything is 25% off. These shorts and this 1/4-zip are things I wear all the time.

We had Run Club after school, and Beck took the speed work quite seriously.

And Skye crushed her soccer game.

How did I not realize until your comments yesterday about Des and how she ran so incredibly fast just a week after her ultra, MDS… One of the hardest in the world!

What days of the year do you think have the highest race registrations?

What is the last speed workout you did?

At what temperature do you start feeling hot on a run?

Andrew wants to know about a time you put your foot in your mouth (he needs to feel less alone;)
