NOT Giving Up + My evening routine:

(tank, shoes)

That speed hurt even more than expected. I went in with much too high of expectations for myself but I believe that high expectations for ourselves pushes us to work harder than low expectations do so oh well;).

I was hoping to do 2 miles with Emilee at her 6:20 pace (part of her much bigger workout) but I made it for just one mile (gasped for air for 4 minutes) and then did 8 x 1 minute fartleks. It always hurts to get back into speed shape but at least it comes back a bit quicker if you’ve had it before.

It looks like spring here but the temperatures skipped to summer and I took plenty of breaks in any shade I could find on the way back to the car.

A little bit of strength happened, too.

Brooke had braces put on! Beck was very excited to see the band colors she picked out.

I had my teeth cleaned yesterday. Lots of teeth things happening in our household.

It’s back to living on the front porch. Raisin Bran with sliced bananas were in my bowl. Nobody approves of my cereal/combo choices over here and that’s okay.

And for dinner, I made these easy chicken enchiladas. So easy. So good.

She is not giving up on her Alaska dream. She is going to make it happen!.

I thought it would be fun to talk about evening routines today because I’ve been trying to be more intentional with mine. These are the things I try to get in on a normal night where we actually have time and we aren’t getting home from soccer games at 9 pm. And of course, throughout these activities we are getting kids ready for bed, putting out their clothes for the next morning, helping them with homework, bedtime etc, but here are some things that make me feel my best in the evening mentally, physically, and emotionally these days:

*Let’s start with dinner. We have been really focused on eating at the table. I’ve been trying to have out as much color as I can fit on the table and light some candles for a relaxing vibe. We are there sitting, eating, and chatting for a solid 20-30 minutes. Andrew and I put our phones away and anyone is welcome whether it’s the kid’s friends, nieces/nephews, or cousins. The more the merrier.

*A clean kitchen because waking up to a messy one hurts my soul. Usually, it’s just the kids cleaning up but we get some music going and they can get it done quick.

*I’ve been loving making a protein shake to sip on throughout the evening and before bed. I feel like I sleep and recover better with some protein. This protein powder tastes like a milk shake when blended with a frozen banana, milk, and ice. Also, if we are having a treat together as a family, that is definitely happening, too.

*An evening walk. Sometimes it’s a mile, and sometimes it’s five minutes. We all feel better when we get out and move a bit after we eat.

Ending the day with a scene like this with my family feels like I’ve won the lottery.

*I plug my phone in the bathroom and use my Hatch for an alarm.

*I do the face wash thing and my current favorite evening face products are this cleanser, this serum, this moisturizer and this lash serum. Don’t judge me for using an assortment of brands haha… I like what I like;)

You know I love to get microneedling done and so I got this at-home one and started using it for 60 seconds three times a week at night. I’ll keep you updated with what I think of it but so far, I do notice my products absorb so well after using it.

*I take my dissolvable progesterone about 30 minutes before I plan on falling asleep.

*Andrew and I get some chatting in, one of us reads a book to the other (sounds weird, but try it, it’s so fun), or we watch a show together. I’m usually fast asleep by 10 or 10:30.

I’ve taken sleep very seriously ever since I was a little girl. I used to go into my parents’ room when I was in middle school, crying if I couldn’t fall asleep fast enough to secure enough hours of sleep…
