10. Years.

(tank, shorts)

I cannot tell you how happy it made me to get to run with my niece again. She already has racing plans for some triathlons, and I’m excited to get to train with her as much as possible… who knows, maybe she will even inspire me to sign up for one?! I gave her some of my Saucony Ride 19s, and she has fallen in love with them. My nephew also joined us, and I predict he will be on the BYU Men’s Cross-Country team and one of their best. Please refer back to this post in about 8 years when he is setting records.

I also did a shoulder workout on the CGX app. During the school year, I get in 3-4 strength workouts a week, and during the summer, closer to 2… but anything more than my previous zero makes me feel pretty good about myself.

We eat SO many egg scrambles, and I will never ever tire of them.

We had to come up with ideas of what to do yesterday since we didn’t have 6 World Cup games to watch.

The girls and the boys fill our cups very differently.

We had some important porch chats.

The peaches from Costco are a 10/10.

Anyone else feel like you are feeling all of the emotions and grieving over different World Cup games? Our cortisol lately…

I have one little olive growing from my Trader Joe’s Olive Tree!

It’s our 10-year anniversary!

I’m pretty sure we both experienced love at first sight with one another. I felt right at home with Andrew right away. Of course, life isn’t always peachy, but we have learned how to work through things better and better with each year. We laugh a good chunk of the time we are together, and I still get so excited when he is on his way home from work (especially when it is earlier than expected). He is worth all of the pain it took to get to him.

I thought I would share a few things I’ve found that make marriage really great.

*WE MUST have a weekly date and get away just the two of us at least once a year. We feel so much more connected when we make sure these things are happening, no matter how busy the kids keep us.

*Also, keeping up with our things outside of each other… his friends, my friends, passions, family relationships. It makes things even better when we continue with these other very important parts of life, too.

*It’s not me vs him when problems pop up; it’s us vs the problem.

*If the needs aren’t met at the base of Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs, I’m a mess… I’ve gotta make sure I sleep, keep my blood sugar steady (hence why I always bring snacks everywhere I go;), hydrated, etc., to keep this marriage as good as it can be. It’s my job to keep myself healthy in these things so I can show up as a better version of myself.

*Exercise. We both need it, and it’s even better when we get mornings to run/ride together. Everything in our world is better with some endorphins.

*Novelty and adventure are everything for us… Visiting new places, running/riding new trails together, trying new recipes, reading new books together, trying new hobbies together… it makes marriage so fun.

*We try not to split up when we can… It would be easier to just have one of us go drop off kids’ friends or run an errand, but then we miss out on 30 minutes of talking and singing in the car. We try to do as many things together as we can, so we have plenty of time to talk and connect.

*We are each other’s biggest fans. I am POSITIVE that Andrew is what finally helped me get my sub-3s, and I try my best to cheer him on and support him as much as I can with his biking, schooling, work goals, etc. I will forever be his biggest cheerleader. You couldn’t pay me to say one negative thing about him.

*Life’s too short to be serious all of the time. It’s my favorite part of me and Andrew’s relationship… we tease each other nonstop, joke, laugh, and we probably should be a bit more serious about some things, but we are both at a maturity level from about 20 years ago, and I’m okay with that.

Do you put toppings on your ice cream, or do you keep it simple?

-I prefer a 1:1 ratio of toppings to ice cream.

Anyone in triathlon training?

What should we do for our 10-year anniversary? We are still trying to figure it out!

-My in-laws will have the kids for a few days soon but we need ideas on where to go and what to do!

Any things you’ve learned that make your relationships better?
